Social security

Social security and good health insurance are essential when working internationally.

Take good care of employees

Social security is complex. There are national insurance, employee insurance and health insurances. We specialize in this complex legislation, both domestic and international. The rules inside and outside the EU differ.

For employees who go on assignments or work in multiple countries, things sometimes don’t get easier. We help with personalized advice and provide appropriate documentation such as an A1 statement or Certificate of Coverage where needed. One of the things we include as standard with our settling-in relocation packages is advice around obtaining health insurance. We also provide advice on how to set up a shadow payroll, for example, if an employee remains socially insured in the Netherlands during an assignment abroad.

Social security

We have extensive experience in applying for A1 statements and Certificates of Coverage.

Health Insurance

This is in principle an obligation for everyone living in the Netherlands and is very dependent on a person’s personal situation.

Foreign premiums

If an employee is socially insured abroad, in some cases the premiums are deductible in the Dutch payroll.
From the time the application is submitted, it takes about 8 weeks before there is a decision from the SVB.
We recommend applying for an A1 declaration in these cases, so that the employee can prove social insurance in the home country in the event of an inspection. It may also be required under the Posted Worker Directive within the EU. If you need help applying for the statement, please feel free to contact us.
If an employee works abroad without an A1 certificate, a fine can be imposed by the local labor authorities. The amount of the fine varies by country and situation.
